Basteltraum Challenge * Herbst/Halloween

Create A Smile * October Release

Yay! Today is release day at Create A Smile and I wanted to share some cards I made with the new goodies :-)

The first card is made with the new stamp set "secret ingredient/geheime Zutat" there's an Englisch and a German version of this set. These snowmen are just the cutest!

I believe the most exciting thing (besides the wonderful stamps) is a brand new die set, that is made to match European A6 cards. I'm over the moon to have this scalloped pierced rectangle die set in my stash. If you have the "Double Stitched Rectangles" from CAS, you can combine them with the new set to create frames (like I did in the first card).

Another super cute new set is "furry and bright" or in German "flauschige Weihnachten". It comes with a turtle, a guinea pig, a cat and a dog, all ready for christmas! I used the new rectangle die (second largest) on this second card as well.

My third card is made of two new sets called "joy to the world" (Deutsch "fröhliche Weihnacht überall) and "magical christmas time" (Deutsch zauberhafte Weihnachten). And again I used the new die set, this time I picked the largest of the scalloped pierced rectangles.

Check out the entire release and see more inspiring fotos on the Create A Smile webside.

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a wonderful day,
Nicole

🍂 Hier geht's zu Birkas Blog -> Mit Herz und Schere    und hier zu Annis Blog -> Annikarten

🍂 Ich wünsch dir einen wundervollen Herbst!
Liebe Grüsse und danke fürs Vorbeischauen,
Nicole

thankful * Lawnfawnatics Challenge

The new Lawnfawnatics challenge theme "somemthing old, something new" is so much fun. I knew, I wanted to use my new pattern paper together with some sweet forrest critters.

I got inspired by the colors used on the colorful pattern paper. So I colored my critters and things to match the paper perfectly. I think colorful patterns seem less distracting when they match a color theme. I love how you get matching papers in one pack, the brown and the green went perfectly with the colorful one.

New: Knit Picky Fall - pattern paper
Older: stamps and dies

give thanks * Reverse Confetti

Hi there,
I'm playing along the Reverse Confetti Stock your Stash halloween/fall fun Challenge. Since we do not celebrate Halloween here (in Switzerland), I went for a card full of fall goodies :-)

I stamped the sentiment first and then started with the pumpkins (large stamps first). I stamped everything with Versafine Onyx Black and covered it with clear embossing powder. This makes loose watercoloring so much easier for me. I still had some gaps left after using all the little stamps by Reverse Confetti so I went through my stash and found that little heart stamp to fill in these gaps.

I got inspired by Yana Smakulas handstamped backgrounds. You can find her on YouTube, Instagram and on her blog.

you are a blessing * MFT Superstar Contest

Hi there,
this is card no. 3 for the MFT Card Design Superstar Contest. I knew I would enter the Clean and Simple category and I challenged myself to play along the Innovation Master one as well but I never thought I would enter the Coloring Virtuoso one.

I'm usually a clean and simple cardmaker because this busy mom here has not so much time for crafting and I feel comfortable with this card style. But two days ago, I got so inspired by this fall stamp set, I wanted to use ALL the images on one card. Most of the time, I'm to lazy or in a hurry for intricate masking but this time... I just went for it and it was SO MUCH fun. But then, the next carmaker problem hit me... I was kinda scared to start coloring and messing up all the time-consuming masking. Again, I just went for it and OMG, I colored for about two and a half hours - let's just say I went to bed way too late. But hey, I had a blast! 😉

I went for a mix of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Caran D'Ache Luminance colored pencils. I tried to use harmonious colors and use them evenly over my card to create a balanced look.

hello friend * MFT Superstar Contest

Hello there

Have you seen the NEWS!!! My Favorite Things is having their Card Design Superstar Contest again 😀😀😀 One category is my go-to and absolute favorite one to make: Clean & Simple. Now, you think this could make it easy for me to join the fun but actually, I had quite a hard time to decide where to start ... yep, cardmaker problem 😆

Finally, I went for one of my favorite stamp sets and my favorite color ... So please join my litte fella hedgehog and his new friend for some hot cocoa. 😊

I'd like to enter this card to the MFT Card Design Superstar Contest in the category clean & simple.

What's so simple? Well, the coloring medium I picked is watercolor markers (Zigs). For me, it's the quickest and easiest way to color a cute image and still get a pretty look. My color combo is pretty simple as it contains only three colors: turquoise, beige and brown-gray.

The background technique is also a very easy to recreate and one of my favorites to make. You simply stamp the trees with Distress Inks and spritz some water on them using a (mini) mister. Just let that background dry and use that time to color and fussy cut your image.

And why do I call it clean? As you can see, there are no embelishments and no clutter at all but lots of white space. Yes, using Distress Inks can get messy but in this case, the look is still clean because the colors didn't go everywhere.
Another thing I focused on keeping clean are the edges of my stamped images. I stamped them with a crisp black ink and covered it with clear embossing powder. This way, my lines stay sharp and neat as I color with watercolor markers.
I don't know about you, but I love fussy cutting. I took the time to really cut clean and even borders around my images.

How I like to "spice up" my clean and simple cards you wonder? Well, I really enjoy combining stamp sets to create scenes that tell a little story. Picking stamps is just so much fun!! In this card, I used four stamp sets.
I also look for a harmonic use of colors. Neutrals are a great way to make a (favorite 😍) color the star of the show. Another thing I like to do is creating visual triangles (hedgehog, bird/cup and sentiment) or use the number three in other ways (like for the trees). I just feel it's so pleasing to the eye.

happy fall birthday * MFT Superstar Contest

Hi there, crafty people

A wonderful crafty friends birthday is coming soon and she loves handmade cards, especially those with a fun twist. So I sat down, drew a sketch, chose a topic, picked a color combo and crafted my heart out 😊 Check out the video at the end of the blog post!

🌟 I couldn't pass on MFTs Card Design Superstar Contest. What an awesome event to play along!!!

→ if you don't want to read all of the blog post, just follow the bold words 😉

I wanted a fall scene with a happy birthday hedgehog that's playing joyfully in the colorful leaves. He's mounted on an action wobbler so he can actually "jump" around. His friends are shouting "yay, yay, yay" and have a cute little present for him. Because it's fall, it's a bit windy and some leaves are falling from the trees.

This is the front of the card. I kept it simple to make the surprise of what's inside even bigger 😉

Yes, the inside almost looks like you couldn't fold this card anymore, but you can flip the bottom up and still close the quite bulky card 😊 I even sent it through the mail,  as I'm writing this post, it's on it's way to Germany.

This little fella is the birthday kid and he's mounted on an action wobbler and has some leaves attached to him with some foil. I wanted this cutie to have a LOT of fun and what's more fun in fall than to jump in a pile of leaves. If you look closely, he almost makes a leaf angel (like a snow angel) 😉 Let's not talk about all the die cutting and adhering of the leaves 😆

The birthday hedgehogs friends are popped up and fold back if you close the card. To make them shout "yay, yay, yay" I stamped the sentiment on transparent foil (like you use for shaker cards) and cut it in something like a speech bubble shape.

This bird's eye view might be my favorite picture of this card. You can see the cute little fella in his pile of leaves and the leaves on some thread that softly are falling down with the warm fall wind.

For design aspects, I went for an all time favorite of mine... the number three, because it's pleasing to the eye. I have tree trees, three clowds and three hedgehogs. I wanted to make this scene harmonious, so I went with a strict color theme and I felt that Distress Inks and watercolor markers (Zigs) were perfect for the look I was going for.
You can spot many cardmaking techniques here such as, ink blending, die cutting, stamping, coloring, fussy cutting, adding foam tape, stamping on foil and the tree fun twist with the action wobbler, the pop up effect and the 3D look of the leaves on the thread.

If you're still reading this, WOW to you! This is an unusually long blog post but hey, it's an unusual card 😉 Thanks for sticking with me... you're almost there 😉

Here's a closer look to the wobbler and the falling leaves ...

Harvest Hedgehog * Distress Ink Background

I love fall and I love making fall cards :-) This first one is inspired by the current MFT Sketch Challenge.

This is one of my favorite ways to make a background and that's how it works: stamp some trees with Distress Inks and spray them with a water mister. I feel that I get better results, if I let it air dry but I also used my heating tool to make sure it's completely dry. For the hedgehog card, I stamped some trees over the dry background to create some depth.

Join the fun and play along over at the MFT Challenge Blog :-)

I made another card using the same technique. This time I used other colors and did not stamp over the spritzed and dried background again.

Schmonday Monday #8 * Sommer, Wasserfarbe & Punkte
