Nicole

Online Card Class * Simply Watercolor

I joined the Online Card Class "simply watercolor" by Kristina Werner. I started following her on YouTube a long time ago and she's one of my favorite cardmakers to watch. She's very good at watercoloring and I only used my watercolors for simple backgrounds... so this summer, I thought I'd give it a try and I'm so happy I did.

This is my first card, inspired by day one's topic.

Day two of the class was about critters. Kristina made it look so easy to draw a simple and fun animal, that I just had to try this. It turned out to be my favorite part of the class. But I must say that day four and five are very close to being no.1 as well. 😊

I did try lettering with brushes for day three but I didn't really like the results. I am my biggest critic, especially when it comes to my handwriting. I feel much more comfortable with pens or brush pens but not with actual brushes.

I was really looking forward to day four and five. I loved to learn how to draw easy landscapes and a bit of nature. Of course I couldn't craft without a bit of my beloved stamps (although you don't need them for this class) so I'm sneaking in a cute critter by Mama Elephant.

I really enjoyed painting florals. Although some paper ended up in the trash, it was fun to practice something new. I will absolutely use techniques I learned in this class for my future cards.

Check out Kristinas blog here -> K Werner Design
and Online Card Classes here -> OCC

💖 Thank you very much, Kristina, for sharing your work and techniques and being such a wonderful teacher. I had a blast joining your class! I really hope, there will be more classes in the future, even though I know how much work they are. THANK YOU!

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a colorful day,
Nicole

Crafting With Compassion

Neat & Tangled has a new and very special challenge going on. It's called "Crafting With Compassion" and it touched my heart. You can read all the details on their blog.

I made this card for my friend, Claudia. She's the founder and head of KreaKids. She's an amazing person and had such a wonderful idea that turned into an AWESOME and huge project!

🎨 What is KreaKids?
  • It's a crafty afternoon program for 5 to 12 years old kids. It's located in my neighbor village (in Switzerland). The name KreaKids simply comes from "creative kids".
  • Before they get crafty, someone tells a story from the bible but the program is open to everyone, no matter what they believe in or where they're from.
  • They try to keep the costs very low, so that every child (for example from a family with less money) has the opportunity to join the fun.
  • KreaKids is financed by donations. The helpers do all the work voluntary and they encourage teenagers to help them teach the kids how to do the craft they prepared.

😀 Crazy and amazing facts!
  • It all started in Claudias living room with just a hand full of kids and now they have about 100 kids each afternoon!!!
  • Claudia plans all the afternoons by herself, she's always looking for inexpensive but super fun crafts and her basement is full of crafty stuff. Her husband totally supports her by doing the finances and paper work.
  • Claudia even managed to get a second project successfully started. It's called "Müslinest" which means "mouse nest" and it's a play time meeting point for parents and their babies and toddlers.

💖 Why this means a lot to me...
  • Claudia is such a wonderful person. She does so much for other people and I think this needs a shout out. I can't imagine the time, heart and energy she put's in her projects.
  • Crafting has always been close to my heart and giving so many kids the opportunity to hear Gods word and craft is just wonderful.
  • I can't help Claudia as a volunteer (because I'm busy with my little ones and because I have a hard time in a room full of people) but this doesn't mean I can't help her at all. We support this amazing women and her work financially and sometimes I make thank you cards for her, so she can give them to the volunteers.
  • Me and my boys really enjoy going to these parent-kids play dates that Claudia started to offer. And it's always a good thing to say THANK YOU.

💌 Why I made exactly this card...
  • I usually make clean and simple cards, but this time, I wanted to do something different. I made my own patterned background out of paper stripes and dye ink stamping. I filled the card with cuteness and colorful confetti.
  • I wanted something playful and fun, like the crafty afternoons.
  • The bears stand for the kids having fun and saying thank you.
  • The background is full of crafty supplies matching the crafty theme.
  • In the stamp set, there's the sentiment "throw kindness around like confetti". That's what inspired the confetti on the card, because Claudia does exactly this. She throws kindness around like confetti! 🎉

Basteltraum Challenge * alles geht

Summer School by MFT * Symmetry

We have day five of the Summer School Challenge by My Favorite Things and it's time for a card with symmetry. I really enjoy how these topics challenge me to try something new.

As I went through my stash of MFT stamps, I was looking for a stamp I could use to make a cute couple because I had the mirror stamping technique in mind. I found this swan stamp set that already had a symmetric couple in it. So I saved some time and used these wonderful swans to create a wedding card.

I usually don't make cards that are as symmetrical as this one but I really like how it turned out.

Summer School by MFT * Complementary Colors

We had primary colors for day two of Summer School Challenge by My Favorite Things and now we have something new for day four... :-)

This fish stamp set is one of my new favorites. I love to make underwater themed cards and that set ist so versatile! Such a fun challenge to use just complementary colors on a card. That orange and blue combo worked just perfectly.

What do you think about complementary colors? Are they easy to use for you?

Summer School by MFT * Repetition

Day three of the Summer School Challenge by My Favorite Things and the topic is again a super fun one :-)

I haven't used the masking technique for a while and this topic seemed just perfect for it. I adore these super sweet penguins a lot. They are so fun and easily create summer feelings on paper.

Couldn't resist to color this cute group in rainbow colors. I just LOVE them. Do you love rainbow colors as well?

Summer School by MFT * Primary Colors

While last days topic was right up my alley, todays topic is a bit more of a challenge...

I rarely use all three primary colors on one card. Sometimes, I use blue and yellow together, but I often replace red with pink. I just like the look much better but HEY, I'm always up for a fun challenge :-)

For this card, I went for the no-line coloring technique. I love using MFTs grout gray dye ink for this, it's super light. I must say, I like how this card turned out, even if I usually don't like to use red on my cards.

Can't wait to see what the next topic is :-) Are you going to play along? It's so much fun!

Summer School by MFT * White Space

When it's too hot outside, you better stay in and craft, right?

I was a bit sad because The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge came to an end but what happy news, that there's a new fun thing to join this summer: My Favorite Things is having a Summer School and I'm so excited to play along!

The first topic is white space. Those of you who follow me on Instagram or on my blog know, that I'm most comfortable with clean and simple cards. So this first day of summer school is the perfect beginning for me. I love to make cute and fun stamps the star of my cards by leaving a lot of white space.

July is full of wonderful peoples birthdays, so I knew I'm going to make a birthday card. This bear is one of my favorite stamps by MFT and the mint background one of my favorite colors. Lot's of favorites on this cards... :-)

Schmonday Monday #7 Süssigkeiten

Hurra!

Meine Karten sind wieder einmal sehr clean and simple geworden.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  MATERIAL / SUPPLIES  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"Sweetest" Avery Elle
"Landscape Textures" Neat and Tangled

In diesem Sinne: schönen Sommer euch allen!
Liebe Grüsse,
Nicole
