Crafting With Compassion

Neat & Tangled has a new and very special challenge going on. It's called "Crafting With Compassion" and it touched my heart. You can read all the details on their blog.

I made this card for my friend, Claudia. She's the founder and head of KreaKids. She's an amazing person and had such a wonderful idea that turned into an AWESOME and huge project!

🎨 What is KreaKids?
  • It's a crafty afternoon program for 5 to 12 years old kids. It's located in my neighbor village (in Switzerland). The name KreaKids simply comes from "creative kids".
  • Before they get crafty, someone tells a story from the bible but the program is open to everyone, no matter what they believe in or where they're from.
  • They try to keep the costs very low, so that every child (for example from a family with less money) has the opportunity to join the fun.
  • KreaKids is financed by donations. The helpers do all the work voluntary and they encourage teenagers to help them teach the kids how to do the craft they prepared.

😀 Crazy and amazing facts!
  • It all started in Claudias living room with just a hand full of kids and now they have about 100 kids each afternoon!!!
  • Claudia plans all the afternoons by herself, she's always looking for inexpensive but super fun crafts and her basement is full of crafty stuff. Her husband totally supports her by doing the finances and paper work.
  • Claudia even managed to get a second project successfully started. It's called "Müslinest" which means "mouse nest" and it's a play time meeting point for parents and their babies and toddlers.

💖 Why this means a lot to me...
  • Claudia is such a wonderful person. She does so much for other people and I think this needs a shout out. I can't imagine the time, heart and energy she put's in her projects.
  • Crafting has always been close to my heart and giving so many kids the opportunity to hear Gods word and craft is just wonderful.
  • I can't help Claudia as a volunteer (because I'm busy with my little ones and because I have a hard time in a room full of people) but this doesn't mean I can't help her at all. We support this amazing women and her work financially and sometimes I make thank you cards for her, so she can give them to the volunteers.
  • Me and my boys really enjoy going to these parent-kids play dates that Claudia started to offer. And it's always a good thing to say THANK YOU.

💌 Why I made exactly this card...
  • I usually make clean and simple cards, but this time, I wanted to do something different. I made my own patterned background out of paper stripes and dye ink stamping. I filled the card with cuteness and colorful confetti.
  • I wanted something playful and fun, like the crafty afternoons.
  • The bears stand for the kids having fun and saying thank you.
  • The background is full of crafty supplies matching the crafty theme.
  • In the stamp set, there's the sentiment "throw kindness around like confetti". That's what inspired the confetti on the card, because Claudia does exactly this. She throws kindness around like confetti! 🎉
